Yorkies love to spend time with their owners. They can be very dejected if left alone for hours on end. Yorkies never grow up and are child live forever and therefore will always require your care and supervision. They have a fearless temperament and will do as they please. They also are inclined to chase due to their hunting instincts, that can include chasing dogs of all sizes!!

Yorkshireterriers are usually very active and need to have exercise twice daily. As far as training goes, they can be easy to train and quite clever. Yorkies can be very stubborn and only pay attention when it suits them. This can be very frustrating. Training needs to be a consistent effort requiring a lot of time.

This small breed of dog usually weighs between five and seven pounds with a large spirit and a life span of around 15yrs. They are very brave with a good sense of hearing which can lead to them becoming reactive and loud. A fenced yard is essential for the safety of a Yorkshire terrier. Remember the Yorkie is a terrier and may also dig right under the fence. Digging is one of the Yorkshire terriers many talents. A Yorkshire terrier will require at least two feedings a day.

Typically, the Yorkie’s is not suitable for families who have small children. Young kids are not suitable companions for the delicate Yorkie. Mistreatment from small children towards Yorkie’s can lead to aggression shown by the dog.

They require a lot of daily grooming as they have a good deal of hair that is high maintenance. You must brush every day and clip regularly, as well as regular professional grooming to keep them looking and feeling their best. They shed little hair which is very suitable for indoors living or allergy suffers. If you do not have time to groom your Yorkie, this will not be the dog for you.

Yorkie’s are a strong, healthy breed of dog prone but can suffer from Teeth problems which can be dealt with by feeding dry food and very regular vet visits. As they get older they can from cataracts and also from arthritis and a collapsed trachea. Using a harness instead of a collar will help with this.

Yorkies require an owner with endurance, persistence and a disciplined mind. If any of these personality traits seem too overpowering, the Yorkie is probably not for you.
